This groups mission focus is on the development and management of grasslands and forage crops.
Key objectives are:
- promotion of sustainable technologies for grassland utilization by pastoralists in arid, semi-arid and cool temperate systems
- support to fodder production in high-potential and peri-urban areas
- maintenance of biodiversity in grasslands especially in low-potential areas and environments at risk
- support to networking and close cooperation with other groups and national programmes
- building and operation of databases on aspects of pastures and fodder crops
- provision of information, guidelines and methodologies to member countries
Key emphasis:
- information and technology transfer
- training and demonstration
- linkages and development of national capacity with activities mainly implemented through a series of working groups and networks
