Part of the University of Witwatersrand, WISER conducts research on the challenges of social and economic transformation in South Africa. WISER has five research programmes. These are:
- law, criminality and the moral logics of everyday life
- meanings of money and cultures of economic rationality
- rethinking ‘race’
- cultures of sexuality and power
- the limits of the state
The Institute conducts seminars in collaboration with the University. It also holds public lectures, open discussions and workshops.
Papers presented at research seminars can be downloaded from the website. The website also contains information about publications by WISER including books, journal articles and a review of the lectures given by speakers at the institute.
