Established in 1995, the Springfield Centre is an independent consulting, training and research organisation specialising in private sector development in low and middle-income economies. We have particular expertise in making markets work for the poor – an approach to development that emphasises systemic change – and have an established international reputation for high calibre, independent analysis.
Our work focuses on development agency policy and the design and assessment of interventions in sectors ranging from agriculture to finance and tourism to media, and in the wider business environment. In all our work we seek to marry a strong business perspective with knowledge of the development context and a commitment to wider development objectives. Geographically, our work covers Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe and Latin America.
We are based in Durham in the United Kingdom but draw on a circle of close associates from around the globe. Developing outputs for the public domain is a priority for us. While much of the Springfield Centre’s work is for individual clients (and private), we consider participating in wider debate and learning to be an important responsibility in order to contribute to the advancement of the private sector development field.
