Project SafeCoast aims to build upon the experience and understanding of coastal risk management of several European partners, in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Denmark and the UK. The project considers how to manage North Sea coasts in 2050 and focuses on the consequences of climate change and spatial developments with respect to safety from coastal flooding. It aims to enable coastal managers to broaden their scope on flood risk management and consider new options for the future. Current projects and activities include:
- climate change and spatial developments: defining and sketching common most likely scenarios for climate change in the North Sea Region coastal area
- the Informed Society: how to improve the awareness of coastal risk and personal responsibilities in society in the long-term
- Integrated Risk Assessment: transnational comparisons of risk methods, interregional information sharing and data exchange harmonisation
- adaptive strategies: a joint vision of how flood risk management can inform Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM), to secure appropriate spatial planning responses.
