This collection of reports measures the existence, effectiveness and accessibility of institutions that hold a government accountable to its citizens. Compiled from reports on 25 countries including Brazil, Japan, Germany and India the index is the centrepiece of the Global Integrity Report, providing a quantitative scorecard of governance practices in each country.
The Index assesses the accessibility of institutions and practices. It further considers the opportunities for citizens to hold governments accountable to the public interest. The reports do not measure corruption itself, rather the ways and means through governments are answerable for their actions.
The following six areas are considered and scored within each report:
- Civil Society, Public Information and Media
- Electoral and Political Processes
- Branches of Government
- Administration and Civil Service
- Oversight and Regulatory Mechanisms
- Anti-Corruption Mechanisms and Rule of Law.
A number of the reports relating to Latin America are also available in Spanish.
