The Centre for European Policy Studies is an independent institute founded in 1983 to provide decision-makers, inside and outside government, with authoritative and independent analysis of European affairs; to provide a forum for discussion to stake-holders in the European policy process; and to create a network of leaders committed to the development of European integration and cooperation.

CEPS conducts research on economic policy; EU policies and business strategy; politics, institutions and society in the EU and the wider Europe. As an independent, not for profit research institute, CEPS depends on the goodwill and financial support of the individuals and institutions in both the public and private sectors. The Centre can, however, only accept funds on the understanding that those who subscribe will not interfere in the development or the outcome of the research work of the Centre and that the results of the research will be published at the discretion of the Centre.
