The W.E. Upjohn Institute is an independent, nonprofit research organisation devoted to finding, evaluating, and promoting solutions to employment-related problems. In conformity with its charter, the Institute pursues three broad objectives, to:

  • contribute at the forefront of economic scholarship to issues of public and private employment and unemployment policy
  • link research based on evaluation, experimentation, and econometric analysis to practical issues related to the most effective design, implementation, and administration of employment-related programmes
  • communicate new knowledge and scholarship effectively to a wide audience of policy makers, practitioners, and researchers./LI>

Combining research activities with the function of administering employment programmes and providing employment-related services to unemployed workers advances the Institute’s original purpose of finding and promoting practical solutions to employment-related problems.
