Carries out UNESCOs mission in the 43 Member States in Asia and the Pacific.
Together with its sister agencies in the United Nations system, UNESCO is committed to consolidating the dynamism and long-term economic growth the region has experienced and carrying out its ethical mission to complement this growth by addressing threats to the peace, security, and equitable development of the region. These include:
- a widening disparity of opportunity, wealth, and empowerment, between and within nations, leading to social injustice, discrimination, and the deprivation of human rights;
- degradation in the quality of individual lives, of communities and societies, and of natural environments and cultural heritage in many areas of the region; and
- new challenges brought about by globalisation, the spread of new information and communication technologies, and the HIV/AIDS pandemic
