Publishing outlets in Africa have dwindled, university presses have declined and many renowned periodicals and journals have ceased publication. Yet indigenous publication is essential to the emergence of African academic enterprise and ought not be replaced by publication in the west. Little information exists regarding current usage of African published journals in African universities. Research by the School of Oriental and African Studies in collaboration with the universities of Ghana and Zambia, seeks to fill the gap and evaluates the use of African published journals and their impact on academic culture in Africa.
