SALISES (formerly the Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER)) is found on each of the three campuses of the University of the West Indies, that is, in Barbados (Cave Hill), Jamaica (Mona) and Trinidad & Tobago (St. Augustine). ISER is the research arm of the social science faculties across the three campuses, and is at the cutting edge on explaining and investigating Caribbean developmental concerns.
The mission of the ISER (Cave Hill) is to be a Centre of Excellence for the conduct of high quality and timely research and consultancies on social, political, economic and management issues in the small developing countries of the Eastern Caribbean. Its objective is to enrich the teaching programs in the Faculty of Social Sciences, aid policy formulation and decision-making in public and private sector agencies and enhance the reputation of the University of the West Indies and the development of members of the Institute and the Faculty.
