Web-based network of individuals and institutions mapping food insecurity, poverty and vulnerability, intending to provide easily understandable information material and tools for improving the targeting of research and aid projects to combat food insecurity and poverty.

Over a three year period the project plans to provide the following outputs:

  • a synthesis of the state-of-the-art GIS mathematical models and methodologies and standardized maps and formats for mapping food insecurity, poverty and vulnerability in various contexts
  • the development of a FIVIMS, a global GIS database which will be available to interested users/network members
  • national and sub-national maps of food insecurity and poverty indicators in an initial six countries spread across the continents
  • an active and functional web-based network of individuals and institutions exchanging information and data and jointly improving the techniques and practical utility of food security and poverty mapping systems for improved programming at national, regional and global levels. The project will develop a dynamic digital atlas capable of query and analysis based on a heterogeneous set of indicators
