The National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center (NCVC) is a division of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina, USA. It aims to achieve a better understanding of the impact of criminal victimisation on adults, children, and their families.
The programme activities of the NCVC are focused on four major areas: scientific research, evidence-based treatment, professional education, and consultation. Key activities include research projects on different aspects of criminal victimisation and child abuse, and an examination of the mental health impact of natural disasters and urban violence. Additional research has examined the utility of cognitive-behavioural interventions in the treatment of assault-related fear and distress.
Clinical services, teaching and policy consultation are also provided. The NCVC clinic serves as a resource centre for the development and implementation of innovative and effective treatment programmes for adult and child victims of violence.
