The Maternal Programme (MP) is part of the Infectious Diseases Epidemiology Unit at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical medicine (LSHTM). The programme, Effective Services, Effective Policies: New Knowledge for Safer Motherhood in Poor Countries, carries out research to address the maternal health problems of women in poor countries by contributing to and informing international debate regarding key policy issues related to the health of young children and their mothers.
The programme focuses on the following areas:
- Specific interventions and service content to improve maternity care in poor countries.
- Understanding the health policy and health system issues which obstruct the political will for change.
- Building a partnership of United Kingdom and international collaborators with established reputations in the field.
