Isandla Institute is a think-tank with a primary focus on fostering just, equitable and democratic urban settlements through research and advocacy. Aside from this issue, areas of policy research and evaluation include:

The institute works with various national and international organisations and with academic institutions. One of the activities offered by Isandla Institute is academic teaching and writing on various (urban) development issues. The institute is also concerned with Development policy and strategy formulation for public and civil society organisations active in development work.
