- to identify, define and fund research, for the benefit of the Institute’s stakeholders
- to communicate research-derived intelligence and information to the Institute’s stakeholders
- to make an active contribution to the development of a legal, social and regulatory framework which supports innovation
- to promote widespread acceptance and understanding of the contribution of IP to the economy and society at large

- Trade Related Aspects of IP Rights (GATT)
- the economic impact of copyright in the digital environment
- research use before patent expiry
- patenting software / business methods
