The Institute of Economics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (IE/HAS) was established in 1954. The IE/HAS is committed to international standards of fundamental and applied research in economics. Its works have focused increasingly on the analysis of the modern market economy and the transition related issues of the Hungarian economy.
The findings of the research programs of the IE/HAS are made available for and are regularly used by policy making bodies and universities. The IE/HAS puts emphasis on promoting academic cooperation with other Hungarian and European research centres. It also considers as a priority to develop stronger links with university departments and to take part in education.
The Institute covers the following research fields: macroeconomics; microeconomics and sectoral economics; industrial organization; agricultural economics; industrial policy; business economics; mathematical economics; and the history of economic thought.
