The Institute for World Economics (IWE) carries out research and formulates policy recommendations as part of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
Founded in 1973, its main research task is to study the underlying trends and factors behind global and regional economic developments, and to examine their present and future impact on the Hungarian economy. Cooperation with other institutions throughout the world also takes place on a regular and continuing basis. The institute is comprised of the following research centres:

- East- Central- Europe
