Research programme aiming to develop a predictive understanding of changes in climate, atmospheric composition and land use in terrestrial ecosystems (both natural and managed), and to determine feedback effects to the atmosphere and physical climate system. Ecosystem studies are being investigated both through manipulative studies and by long term studies at selected sites. Modelling studies focus on the construction of dynamic vegetation and agricultural systems models. Part of the IGBP programme (see separate entry).
