FAO initiative in support of the Action Programme of the 1996 World Food Summit.

Programme addresses the relationship between urbanisation, urban poverty and food insecurity. It focuses on the impact of urbanisation on the efficiency of food supply and distribution activities and the need to stimulate private-sector initiatives and investment. Runs Food into Cities membership network. Also manages the “Food into Cities North-South Partnerships and Technical Cooperation” scheme. City and Local Authorities (CLAs) in developed countries can collaborate with FAO to provide technical assistance to CLAs in developing countries and countries in transition (DTCs)
