Founded in 1990, the European Women’s Lobby (EWL) is a non-governmental organisation that brings together over 4000 women’s organisations across Europe. Its stated mission is to work together to achieve equality between women and men, to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women, to secure women’s human rights, to eradicate violence against women and finally, to ensure gender equality is a consideration in all European Union policies.
EWL is active in different areas such as women’s economic and social position, women in decision-making, violence against women and women’s diversity. EWL works mainly with the institutions of the European Union: the European Parliament, the European Commission and the EU Council of Ministers.
The EWL website offers a number of information services, including regular email updates, publications, and news alerts regarding gender policy developments.
