Collaborative programme to support developing countries in integrating environmental assessment into power sector planning. Funded by a group of bilateral and multilateral agencies, and coordinated by the World Bank.
Activities include:
(a) EM Network: archive and conferencing system to facilitate communication/collaboration among those planning and implementing power development projects. Includes a directory of members, discussion list [not yet implemented].
(b) EMPower Info: full text archive of materials providing guidance on how environmental assessment and mitigative measures can be integrated into project planning, sector planning and environmental standards-setting. Also provides information on country-specific environmental standards and World Bank policies and procedures. Current information covers: energy source analysis, thermal power conversion techniques and air quality control, methods and tests for environmental assessment, environmental standards and guidelines (mostly national air quality standards).
(c) EM Model Software: decision support tool for estimating the environmental impacts of power projects. Consists of a database (with information on energy resources and conversion processes plus a modelling program. Software can be downloaded from WWW.
