The World Bank is a source of financial and technical assistance to developing countries around the world. The World Bank’s Climate Change Team is located within the Environment Department and is part of the Bank’s Environmentally and Socially Sustainable Network.
The Climate Change Team provides resources and expertise for the World Bank’s participation in international climate change negotiations under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and provides technical advice to the World Bank’s Global Environment Facility (GEF) Programme on the preparation of GEF climate change mitigation projects in energy efficiency and and renewable energy and on development of strategic initiatives with the GEF. The Team also is leading the Bank’s efforts related to climate change vulnerability and adaptation issues for its client countries, and coordinates these efforts with the Bank’s Disaster Management Facility.
