This is the website of the Centre for Women’s Research (CENWOR) – a non-governmental organisation based in Sri Lanka, working to promote women’s rights.
CENWOR’s work focuses on four different areas: policy and action-oriented research; information and communication; training; and advocacy, lobbying and networking.
The website presents information about each of these areas. It also show-cases CENWOR publications, which include: ‘Resources for Combating Violence Against Women’; ‘Beyond the Glass Ceiling: Participation in Decision Making in the Public Domain’; and ‘Gender Ideologies in the School Curriculum: a Textual Analysis of Secondary School Text Books’ and a series of training materials in English, Tamil and Sinhala.
Since Sri Lanka is the only Asian country where the number of female labour migrants far exceeds male migrant workers, a page is devoted to CENWOR campaigns relating to the rights of women migrant workers.
The website also provides links to other organisations working on gender issues in Sri Lanka, and to international women’s organisations.
