The Centre for Security and Defence Studies (CSDS) is an institution working on on security and defence issues in the Ottawa community and across Canada.

The CSDS has three principal and inter-related missions:

  • to enhance interdisciplinary graduate and undergraduate teaching at Carleton University in the fields of international conflict analysis and defence and security studies
  • to promote research and publications by faculty, graduate students and outside specialists in these fields, with emphasis on policy and security issues for Canada
  • to support outreach activities with the Parliament of Canada, government departments and agencies, school boards, the media, NGOs and international organisations through training programmes, professional conferences, and public discourse on international security and defence issues
