The main objective of CDS is to promote research, teaching and training in disciplines relevant to development in India.

• Population and Development
• Industry, Technology and Trade
• Primary Producing Sector and Agrarian Economic Institutions

The centre runs an M.Phil Programme in Applied Economics, Ph.D Programme in Economics and Post-Graduate Diploma Programme in Population and Sustainable Developmenassociation with Jawaharlal Nehru University New Delhi. It has an extensive library with a searchable online catalogue.
