The 2003 Business and Human Rights Seminar was held on the 9 December in London and attracted an international audience of business leaders, government officials and leading commentators from NGO’s, academia and the media.
This was the first seminar of what is to be an annual event aimed at playing a strategic role in identifying some of the up-coming issues emerging within the business and human rights nexus. The 2003 seminar focused on governance and the way that human rights can relate progressive trends in corporate governance to wider societal issues and the need for better global governance generally. Particular attention was devoted to the “United Nations Norms on the responsibilities of trans-national corporations and other business enterprises with regard to human rights” and their possible utility in helping to clarify the debate and providing the basis of a tool for business.
The Seminar’s website offers access to links to human rights and corporate social responsibility websites, including those of the organisations participating in the conference, as well as to seminar materials and reports.
