Are development agencies really committed to gender equality? Is gender still a ‘women’s issue’, despite efforts to mainstream it? Most gender research is carried out by women. Women also dominate gender units in development organisations and agencies whilst men are often excluded from GAD activities. Both sexes need to be involved for real change to take place. What do men and women think about men’s roles in gender and development? Research by the Peace and Development Research Institute (PADRIGU), University of Goteborg, explored the attitudes of SIDA’s staff towards men’s involvement in GAD, suggesting that men need further encouraging to take an active role in achieving gender goals.
