The relevance of environmental and climate change for migration decisions is studied by the members of micle research project based on the neighbouring Sahelian countries Mali and Senegal. The project aims to improve the understanding of the complex interactions between ecological, social, demographic, economic and political factors. The practical objective is to identify possible courses of action for political decision-makers and societal stakeholders. The overall goal of the project is to contribute to a better understanding of the complex relationships between (climate-related) environmental changes and migration.
The project is coordinated by the Institute for Social-Ecological Research (ISOE) in Germany; associated partners are the Department of Geography at the University of Bayreuth in Germany and the Department of Geography and Regional Research at the University of Vienna in Austria.
