Information on the AIDS pandemic and on HIV seroprevalence (infection) and incidence in population groups in developing countries. Compilation of information from those studies appearing in the medical and scientific literature, presented at international conferences, and appearing in the press. Currently the HIV/AIDS Surveillance Data Base contains about 40,000 individual data records drawn from over 4,300 publications and presentations. The data base was developed on the microcomputer for portability and has a user-friendly interface. Available information for population groups in a selected country can be easily retrieved and displayed on the computer screen, printed in tabular format, or saved to an ASCII or Lotus file. The data base is updated twice a year. Database can be downloaded from WWW.

The HIV/AIDS database contains epidemiological information for developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Recently, information has been added from Central Europe and the Newly Independent States. The International Programs Center has been compiling HIV seroprevalence information contained in journals, articles and public presentations since 1987. Information included is almost exclusively from developing countries in Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, Asia and Oceania. Data is in the form of tables for each country listing all surveys done in the country, with a short description of the sample used and data on seroprevalence rates. Seroprevalence estimates for high and low risk population groups by country and region are presented in summary tables and plotted on maps for some areas. Tables are also provided for HIV-1 and HIV-2, where available, in major cities and rural areas. Equivalent data is also given for reported AIDS cases. Bibliographical references are also given for all data sources.
