Organisation (also known as the European Centre for Global Interdependence and Solidarity) aiming to raise public awareness within Europe on issues of global interdependence and solidarity. Supports the principles of the Council of Europe in relation to pursuit of pluralist democracy.
North-South Centre Projects cover the following two priority areas of activity:
- Education and training for global citizenship
- Policy dialogue for human dignity and democracy.
The Centre recognises that it would be difficult, if not impossible, to apply these priorities to its programme without also setting additional targets and making geo-political choices. A consensus has developed in the Centre’s Statutory bodies that youth and young people should be a privileged category when it comes to targeting its activities. For this reason many of the Centre’s activities have a strong youth component and the Centre has developed active working relations with the existing structures for international youth co-operation, notably the European Youth Forum.
Similarly, the Centre has made geo-political choices to enhance its own effectiveness and to avoid spreading itself too thin. Priority is being given to Africa and to the countries bordering on the Mediterranean basin. Notably, the Centre’s human rights activities focus on these two regional priorities. When appropriate in the context of activities with a more global orientation, the Centre also works with Asia and Latin America but these regions are not programme priorities at this stage.
