BUCLA is an author card catalogue of the Latin American holdings of the important UK collections in the field of Latin American studies — some 90 university, special, national, special and public libraries. BUCLA was maintained by the Library of the Institute of Latin American Studies, University of London (ILAS: see separate entry), from 1966 until closed to new accessions in 1988. Holdings are strongest for university libraries. It contains records for 204,000 titles (374,000 locations). It records material of all kinds: books, pamphlets, periodicals, newspapers, government publications, theses, microforms and audiovisual materials. Locations may be found for titles of periodicals, but not their contents. > The main contributing university libraries carried out retrospective searches of their Latin American material, so their holdings in BUCLA are comprehensive to 1988. BUCLA is particularly useful for tracing periodicals, and older works which do not always appear in university online catalogues.
The catalogue is located in ILAS, and may be consulted by visitors. Alternatively, you can phone or write for locations.. The Catalogue was published on microfiche in 1988 by IDC, Leiden (see separate entry).
