NCDS provides an Australian focus for the study and evaluation of aid and development issues, reflecting our substantial trade and cultural links with the immediate region. The geographic focus of the Centre is East Asia and the South Pacific, but expands to other developing regions as student interest and staff expertise allow. Demographic issues as they apply to Africa are of special concern. The Centre is placing increasing emphasis on the achievements of indigenous peoples—course work and the research of the North Australia Research Unit are driving this agenda.

Publishes working papers and 3 regular journals: Asia-Pacific Economic Review; Pacific Economic Bulletin; Asian-Pacific Economic Literature. Coordinates the Australian Development Studies Network.

WWW site offers information on the Centre’s research, teaching and publishing programmes.
