PFT/FTRP is a multi-disciplinary project sponsored by the European Community (DG VIII) which aims to investigate and document the future of the peoples of the rainforest. T major input is from anthropologists. Started in 1995 the project runs for five years, and involves over 80 researchers (senior and trainee) in three principal areas: the Caribbean (Belize, Guyana, French Guyana ), Central Africa and the southwestern Pacific (Papua New Guinea).

The project is managed by a consortium of organizations including the Centre for Anthropology and Computing (see separate entry) at Kent University, ORSTOM, Universite Libre de Bruxelles, Faculte des Sciences Agronomiques de Gembloux, CNRS/LACITO.
