Non-profit research, education and consulting organization, is dedicated to promoting the participation of underrepresented and impoverished groups in social, political and economic development processes. With efforts focused primarily in developing countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America, IDR helps to identify and share institutional innovations and social problem-solving processes required for lasting change. Current research foci are:

(a) Strengthening civil society: works with partners to strengthen the strategies and organizational capacities of civil society groups such as non-governmental development organizations (NGOs),community-based groups and grassroots social movements. IDR has worked closely with civil society organizations concerned with development for the past 15 years. The program began by providing consultation and capacity-building support to specific development NGOs. Over the last decade, however, IDR has worked primarily with national, regional and international civil society support organizations which provide training, research, consultation and advocacy assistance to their respective constituents. One aspect of the program is to identify issues of concern and options for civil society action. A second aspect is to work with support organizations to build national, regional and international capacity for strengthening civil society actors and their contributions.A third aspect is to build and strengthen international networks that support civil society capacity-building.
