Project funded by German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ: Bundesministerium fur wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung). Aims to gather together and improve the most effective methods, instruments and approaches to poverty reduction, and then pass them on – reworked and streamlined – for use in practical project work. Works jointly with as many German Development cooperaton organizations as possible – and with their partners.
The project provides a platform for the exchange and discussion of core criteria for country-, sector- and project-specific forms of development work to reduce poverty. The pivotal factors in effective work may then worked with greater foresight into the project and program profiles of the various development organizations. The approaches presented all call for promotion of the productive capabilities of the poor and for their active participation in process of change. For this reason, these approaches are not confined to supporting self-help-oriented poverty reduction; instead, they specifically address economic, political and social framework as well.
Current country study foci are: Morocco, Peru, South Africa, India, Bolivia, Yemen, Mozambique.
The main forum for the Poverty Reduction Project is the Internet, where users can present, evaluate and access instruments and methods.
