The Nautilus Institute for Security and Sustainable Development is an policy-oriented research and consulting organization with an Asia focus. Its mission is to solve interrelated critical global problems by improving the processes and outcomes of global governance. It presently addresses three global problems which are considered to exemplify the general challenge to global governance that we face in an era of global transformation. These three global problems are:
- the threat and reality of global climate change, particularly the equity dimensions of mitigation and adaptation
- the threat and reality of nuclear war and global insecurity
- the threat and reality of the global economy outpacing ethical governance
Nautilus produces reports, organizes seminars, and provides educational and training services for policymakers, media, researchers and community groups. Core staff are based in Berkeley, with associates in several locations throughout the world. Research is drawn from many disciplines, including environmental economics and science, energy and resource planning and international relations.
