The Institute’s mission can be broken down into four distinct objectives

  • to identify, define and fund research, for the benefit of the Institute’s stakeholders
  • to communicate research-derived intelligence and information to the Institute’s stakeholders
  • to make an active contribution to the development of a legal, social and regulatory framework which supports innovation
  • to promote widespread acceptance and understanding of the contribution of IP to the economy and society at large

  • the European patent (EPO / judicial procedures etc.)
  • Trade Related Aspects of IP Rights (GATT)
  • the economic impact of copyright in the digital environment
  • research use before patent expiry
  • patenting software / business methods
