The Centre for Property Studies (CPS) at the University of New Brunswick was established in 1997 to draw together existing expertise from academia, government and the private sector, and provide an international focus for interdisciplinary research and education in land and property systems. The CPS approaches property as a concept, an institution, and a right that has far reaching consequences beyond property itself. Thus the legal infrastructure, human rights, and economic development associated with formalization of property systems has implications for poverty reduction, equity, transparency, civil society, and good governance.
The CPS focuses on four major themes within the property arena:
- Land and information management
- Law and organizational reform
- Land and resource management
- Property economics
The CPS offers education and training at a number of levels including certificate and diploma courses culminating in a M.Phil. in Property Studies.
