Moscow Center for Gender Studies is an an independent nonprofit research institution established in 1990. The Center conducts research into gender theory in the field of social sciences. The main aims of the Center include:
- prevention of all types of discrimination against women
- promotion of gender equality and justice in politics, the work place, society and the family
- integration of gender theory and methodology into research in Russia
- popularization of gender education and information
As a result of MCGS activities gender theory has been recognized by the academic community and implemented into the curricula of many universities in Russia.
Today the main activities of MCGS focus on:
- conducting women’s and gender studies
- designing educational and training programs
- analyzing gender issues in social policy and legislation
- cooperating with state authority bodies to promote a dialogue between governmental structures and women non-governmental organizations pertaining to the position of women in society and gender equality in Russia
MCGS regulary prepares reports and expert materials on the status of women and social policies in the Russian Federation.
The Center has Russian and English language websites containing the main information on the activities of the organization, undertaken projects and training seminars. It also contains a list of avialable publications on gender issues (only a few copies are available to download).
