The Centre for Health Economics is a specialised centre focusing on health economics and health care issues within the Faculty of Economics, Chulalongkorn University. The Centre aims to:

  • develop expertise in the application of health economics in the formulation of health care policies, in planning and resource allocation, and in the health care delivery process in Thailand
  • strengthen health economics research capability both in Thailand and in South-East Asia
  • encourage research in economic analysis and evaluation of disease control, with special attention to tropical diseases
  • provide advisory and information services in South-East Asia on health economics research

In addition to research, the Centre also offers an MSc in Health Economics and other short training courses. Since 1993, the Centre has been a World Health Organisation (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Health Economics.

Current or recently completed research projects in collaboration with other research institutes include:

    the economics of leprosy

  • the economics of filariasis, malaria and other vector borne diseases
  • modelling of options in health care planning and resource allocation
  • financing health care
