- Third World industrialisation, development geography, population mobility, and urbanisation; economic geography, effects of aid on Third World economies
- hillslope and stream hydrology, environmental water quality, soil erosion processes, geomorphology and fires, developments in field and laboratory techniques
- agricultural geography, Pacific ethnobotany, environmental protection, Pacific island food, health and nutrition systems, aerial-photo interpretation and remote sensing
