The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Response Agency (CDERA) is a regional inter-governmental agency responsible for disaster management in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). CDERA’s attempts to make an immediate and coordinated response to any disastrous event affecting any of its sixteen participating States. The agency’s key activities include:

  • training for disaster management personnel
  • institutional strengthening for disaster management organizations
  • development of model disaster legislation for adoption by participating States
  • development of model policies and guidelines for use in emergencies
  • education and public awareness
  • resource mobilization for strengthening disaster management programs in participating States

The CDERA collaborates with a variety of national, regional and international organizations as well as specialized technical agencies and donor agencies.

Through its website, the CDERA gives on-line access to its documentation center including documents, photos, maps, studies, news and fact sheets on natural and man-made hazards. The website is displayed in English and contains a section about the Caribbean weather forecasts.
