SOS Sahel UK was established in 1985. We seek long-term, sustainable solutions to the poverty experienced by millions of people across the semi-arid lands of the Sahel. We want to see the people of the Sahel have more influence over the decisions that affect their lives and more control over the resources they need for a secure and fulfilling life.
We are committed to the principle of African-led development. In 2003 we embarked on an ambitious and exciting process of transformation. Most of our former country offices, in Ethiopia, Mali, and Niger, are now autonomous NGOs managed by African boards. With our programme team in Sudan, we continue to work alongside these young organisations, learning from and supporting each other where needed.
