Puntos de Encuentro (Meeting Places) is a Nicaraguan non-governmental organisation (NGO) founded by feminists. It has several media outlets, publishes a wide variety of materials, and facilitates workshops and other activities aimed at increasing public and individual awareness around gender related issues. It seeks to contribute to development in Nicaragua by strengthening the conceptual and organisational capacities of women’s and young people’s groups, as well as by influencing public opinion to create a more favourable climate for the values and changes it promotes.
The site features radio and TV programmes called Sexto Sentido (Sixth Sense) on topics of interest for young people and women, the Boletina magazine that documents and analyses issues relating to the women’s and youth movements, training materials for young people, and a documentation service with 11,000 titles and a range of publications. In addition the site offers information about relevant national and international alliances, contacts and links. Issues covered include: identity, violence, feminism, youth, sexual and reproductive rights, masculinity, institutional strengthening, HIV and AIDS, and leadership.
