Institute of Disapora Studies and Integration was set up in June 1996 with the purpose of studying tendencies and processes on the territory of the former USSR – in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The Institute is involved in analysing internal and external policies of the newly formed independent states and developing models for their further economic, political and military integration.
The Institute currently has the following country departments:
- Ukraine and Crimea
- Belarus
- Kazakhstan
- Central Asia
- Caucasus
In addition to that the Institute operates a number of other departments dealing with:
- economic integration in the CIS
- military and defence cooperation
- the Russian diaspora in the CIS
